Cultural Adjustment and the Cross-Cultural Adaptability Inventory (CCAI)
We help individuals determine their potential for adjustment to a new environment, and assist companies in choosing the right personnel for international assignments.
Global LT's Cross-Cultural Programs vary in length and focus:
eliminating misconceptions or stereotypes of the target culture;
explaining reasons for different or “foreign” behavior;
strengthening the ability to communicate and negotiate effectively;
providing the tools needed to anticipate behavior;
facilitating the process of accomplishing goals and objectives;
assisting in understanding the diversity of market needs;
educating personnel about recognizing cultural impacts
-- on the business climate;
illustrating that there is no right or wrong cultural behavior, only different;
providing insight needed to understand motivation,
-- thereby developing mutual cooperation.
The Business Council for International Understanding estimates that international personnel who do business abroad without cultural training have a failure rate of 33-66%, in contrast to less than 2% of those who had the benefit of such preparation. The average cost of a relocation assignment to Europe or Latin America is US$1,000,000. The average premature return rate is 20%.
A recent study of CEOs of Fortune 500 companies in Fortune Magazine showed that the major stumbling block to globalization is adapting to local cultures.
Our Business Program equips corporate groups or individuals with the tools needed to communicate and work effectively in the global marketplace. The business program is conducted in 8-hour, full day sessions with a maximum of 25 participants. It heightens awareness of cultural differences and encourages client participation in identifying the tools and skills needed for effectively addressing differences both socially and professionally.
Our Expatriate Program prepares individuals and their families to interact, live and work successfully in a new culture. The program can either present an overview of the differences in a variety of cultures or target a specific country. For expatriate families, the 12-hour, one day and a half session is highly recommended. This interactive, personalized program addresses business, social and practical relocation issues while encouraging client participation in learning the skills needed for effectively living and working in the target culture.
Global LT takes pride in customizing all training based on the completion of a needs assessment.
